BMW Angel Eye Bulb Repair. Reflector design is similar to other BMW series and repair will work on cars equipped with halogen headlights and this type of angle eye bulb/reflector unit.

Xenon headlights equipped cars have a different Bmw bulb design.

Bulb itself is designed to be inseparable from reflector or housing and is sold as one piece. Price from the dealer was $68 for the whole thing. BMW got the bright idea to make a cheap $5 bulb not replaceable, so you have buy whole unit. Whats 68 bucks plus tax between friends.

They even used a regular socket which has a replaceable bulb, and then decided to make it unreplaceable for some reasons, or shall we say 68 reasons. Reflector hole was made smaller and since reflector sits on top, then light bulb becomes unchangeable. Anyways, its very easy to work around it and takes about 15min.

Tools needed are a 10W bulb and some superglue.

Of course, bulb is not sold separately from BMW but you can find it online. Rockauto.com for example has them for few bucks under parking light bulb section.

Otherwise you can get a cabin reading/map bulb from 5 series E39 or 7 series E38, it’s exactly same 10W bulb. Part number for the bulb: #63311375003.

Image below shows reflector and bulb socket. It has two small surface areas at bottom of reflector where socket joins reflector. BMW fixed reflector permanently to light bulb socket, unit its not meant to be dismantled but discarded and replaced with a new one. However, that doesn’t mean it can not be dismantled, it can and very easily.

Using a grinder is easiest, but other things will work (a knife, a box cutter, etc) to separate socket from reflector. Cut or grind plastic part of light bulb socket which is inserted into light reflector. Once you do that, reflector will separate from bulb socket. Might take a bit of force but it eventually separate.

Twist and remove old light bulb and replace it with anew one. Superglue it or use whatever glue you have close by (silicon will do too) and install unit back in place. All done, your Bmw angel eye now cost $5 instead $68. In matter of minutes your used car got its angel eye back.
