How to Change Spark Plugs Hyundai Veloster: Spark plugs are part of general maintenance and should be replaced at 100k kn intervals. Spark plug replacement interval will depend on spark plugs type. Iridium spark plugs for example while more expensive will far outlast cooper ones.

How to Change Spark Plugs Hyundai Veloster

Vehicle is a Hyundai Veloster with a 4 cylinder turbo engine. Procedure of spark plug replacement is easy and straight forward as with majority of 4 cylinder engines.

Tools: Standard Spark Plug Socket/tool, flat screwdriver, 10mm socket and ratchet.

Remove engine cover, it’s a plug in type and it does not have any bolts or screws. Pull it up and will come out (image below).

Clean up dirt around ignition coils before you continue. You don’t want anything to end up inside the engine. Disconnect coil electrical connectors.

Pull upwards grey tab (image below), then press down on center connector clip and pull connector out. Do the same on all four ignition coil connectors.

Last connector (drivers side) is somewhat hidden. Unplug electrical connector sitting on top of it and enough space will be created to remove coil and spark plug (image below/red arrow).

Ignition coils are secured with 10mm bolts. Use a 10mm socket and remove all four of them. Pull ignition coils out.

Use spark plug socket/tool and remove all four spark plugs (image below).

Spark Plug Installation

You can use anti-seize compound if you prefer but is not a must. Install new spark plugs by hand initially. Do Not use a ratchet or lever. Its easy to destroy cylinder head threads by using force if a spark plug is not threaded straight. It will get expensive real fast if that happens.

Use socket and extension (no ratchet) to screw new spark pugs on engine block, do not use a ratchet or apply force, spark plugs should go in nice and easy by hand. Use ratchet to tighten plugs. Do not over tighten spark plugs, 10 ft/lbs should be enough.

How to Change Spark Plugs Hyundai Veloster; Install coils, just push them all the way in and secure them with 10mm bolts, do not over tighten coil bolts as you might crack coil base.

Connect electrical connections on ignition coils, push in place engine cover.
