How To Change Spark Plugs Chevrolet Cruze: 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, 1.4 liter turbo engine. Removal and installation of spark plugs is easy and should take about one hour of work.

Spark plugs are replaced as part of normal maintenance on this car, odometer reading is 86,000km. New spark plugs used are Bosch Iridium 96306, OEM spark plugs are NGK Iridium IFR7X7G.

Tools: 5/8 Spark plug socket/ratchet/extension or a spark plug tool, Torx T30 bit and a flat screwdriver.

Remove engine cover, there are no bolts or screws. Pull it upwards to release it from clips.

Remove ignition coil pack electrical connector. Use a flat screwdriver to push out orange colored security tab (image below). Once security orange tab is out, press on electrical connector plug center tab and unplug electrical connector.

Remove ignition coil pack. Unscrew ignition coil pack T30 torx bolts and pull coil pack out. Use a flat screwdriver on ignition coil pack sides to slowly remove it.

Spark Plug Removal: Use 5/8 socket/ratchet or spark plug tool and remove all four spark plugs (image below).

New Spark Plug Installation Cruze

Check inside spark plugs opening for oil leaks. Replace valve cover and spark plugs o-ring gaskets if oil is detected inside spark plug holes.

New spark plugs are gaped from factory and do not need to be gaped prior to installation. Use socket and extension to screw new sparks plugs on engine head, by hand only. Do not use a ratchet to install new spark plugs. Spark plugs should go in easily by hand.

Forcing a spark plug using a ratchet is asking for trouble. Threads on aluminum cylinder head are very easily damaged.

How To Change Spark Plugs Chevrolet Cruze: Install spark plugs by hand and then use ratchet to tighten them. Do not over tighten spark plugs. Use enough force until you feel spark plug o-ring crushed. Push coil pack in place on top of spark plugs, install bolts and plug in coil pack electrical connector. Install engine cover.
